But Amara’s spirit is far from broken. Sharp, resourceful and surrounded by women whose humour and dreams she shares, Amara comes to realise that everything in this city has its price. But how much will her freedom cost?

Review from Book Club Meeting:
The reviews were very mixed which made for interesting discussion! We had a few 5 stars and a few 2s.
We liked how the author was able to transport us into ancient Pompei and create a story of women whom you would not really read from history books about.
We enjoyed how the characters were complex and not just good or bad and how stories evolved.
Many of us are already on the second book and pre-ordering the third one of the series!!
From things we did not enjoy – the book was sad and described violence perhaps a little too well, and was a bit slow in places too. We agreed that this maybe was not a holiday read and that sometimes the way we perceive books might change based on our mood and reading circumstances.
Overall we gave it 3.66 stars.
