The Trial by Rob Rinder

ONE MURDER. ONE IMPOSSIBLE CASE. WHO IS GUILTY?

When hero policeman Grant Cliveden dies from a poisoning in the Old Bailey, it threatens to shake the country to its core.

The evidence points to one man. Jimmy Knight has been convicted of multiple offences before and defending him will be no easy task. Not least because this is trainee barrister Adam Green’s first case.

But it will quickly become clear that Jimmy Knight is not the only person in Cliveden’s past with an axe to grind.

The only thing that’s certain is that this is a trial which will push Adam – and the justice system itself – to the limit. . .

  1. Sharon Curran –

FROM BOOK CLUB MEETING: Overall we felt the book was an easy read although expectations fell short for most people. Whilst the main character was a likeable chap, with an attention to detail you would expect from a trainee barrister, the others were one dimensional with no real character development, and little or no impact on the main storyline.

Whilst the main plot had a clear direction and numerous unexpected twists that kept the reader interested, several of the back stories seemed irrelevant to the plot and at the end of the book they lacked any clarity or conclusion.

This book split our group with most thinking it was only ok.

  2. Sharron Turton –

Not a book I would normally choose but really enjoyed it.
It was an easy read and Adam was a likeable character. The little phone calls with his mum Throughout the book was a nice touch. The ending wasn’t what I’d hoped for but a good twist.
