A Woman of Opinion

‘I shall be a thousand different Marys and, in such manner, shall find the one I wish to be…’

Mary uses her charm and connections to live a life less ordinary – befriending poets, playwrights, and politicians. Securing a position for her husband as ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, she travels east, where she discovers a medical miracle.

But this new adventure will come at a cost, for Mary’s inability to abide by the rules and her outspoken opinions have gained her powerful enemies…

    From the Book Club meeting:
A lot of us struggled with this book. Although the main protagonist was undoubtedly an interesting character, who lived a fascinating life and is someone we should all know the name of, we just couldn’t relate to her and in this book we felt she was quite one-dimensional. The story just didn’t flow and at times felt like reading a textbook. Although we weren’t gripped, some did still find it a pleasant read.
Overall, A Woman of Opinion averaged 2.73*
